Not the MBA. Terrible mousepad placement. The heal of my hand hits the corner all the time when I get into typing quickly. Great machine otherwise.

To be honest, the MacBook Pros are excellent in that area.

I often find myself doing some 3D modelling with my trackpad, and it's much faster than if I'm using a mouse. It's also very easy to use.

The keyboard is also very nice.

I think the MB keyboards are... adequate. Nothing special.

I made the move about a year ago to the Apple Magic Trackpad (dorky name, I know). But I love it. Smooth, responsive, accurate. I may never go back to a mouse again.

+ an actually decent keyboard and mouse.

I've yet to find a keyboard on a laptop that is actually good for more than an hour of real work nor a touchpad that's as precise as a real mouse.

MBP trackpads are pretty good, but the keyboard on my ThinkPad T410 rules all :)

Something about my old Pavilion ZT1185... just felt so right. I think I liked the way the scroll pad was separated.

The keyboard was perfect in every way too, despite it not being full size.

The keyboard on my new-ish Dell is horrible. I don't know why the keys are spaced so far apart and why a majority of other new laptops are the designed the same way.

I've got a T420 (hey hey smoke weed every day) for work. Good keyboard, not a fan of the track pad.

Best keyboard: 1983 TRS-80 Model 100.

Slightly less ridiculous option: Any pre-2012 Thinkpad

Best trackpad: Any Apple laptop, a few ASUS, absolutely no Acer, one or two HP.

Their Latitude and Precision lines have pretty good keyboards. Their consumer machines are crap.

I prefer the older trackpads more but the keyboard of the T420 is impeccable.

Dell Inspiron 15 (3521). Also, the spacebar key doesnt function that well unless you engage it harder than the other keys. I might have to purchase a replacement sometime.

YES YES YES! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!

Kinja'd!!!

Mother*ucking Thinkpad master race! Typing this comment with that beast pictured above, a T420. Touchpad is for sissy laptops which doesn't have a magic trackpoint (AKA a cl*t mouse), I barely touched my touchpad in more than 2 years of service.

Thinkpads > any other laptop

Do you need more space? Just take that damn disc drive off and put a HDD in a Ultrabay adaptor. I've got 2 HDDs on my laptop. 2 hard disks on a single laptop . If, if I had shitloads of cash I could had 2 SSDs instead, but I'm not made of money. Need more battery life? Take the disc drive off and put in a finger-licking sweet second battery. Need even more battery life?? PLUG IN A THIRD BATTERY UNDERNEATH YOUR THINKPAD(tm) AND WORK UNTIL THE END OF THE UNIVERSE!

It has also a fingerprint scanner. You can lock your BIOS settings with your fingerprint, how hacker is this? Sony wouldn't be hacked if they used Thinkpads. It is even possible to swipe your sweat and Doritos covered finger instead of typing your root password when running something as sudo on Linux. If this isn't a nerdy Nirvana, I don't know what else can be.

Mildy inspired by these advertisements.

Or put an SSD in the main bay and an HD In the DVD bay... what I did to my EliteBook 8460p. It also has a trackpad, buttons above and below it, and a clitmouse.

Oh, you mean the clit mouse!

You claim to model faster with a trackpad than a mouse. That is... kinda interesting, but mostly suspicious. How in the hell? :D How bad is your mouse? Sorry, I just can't wrap my head around it. Even in Sketchup it's a pain, let alone Max or Blender.

I use Cinema 4D. Using the Apple track pad is a series of smooth finger gestures which seamlessly intertwine with eachother. It is faster, I gurantee it.

I am aware of Apple track pads and their mice. Personally, not my thing. I prefer a mouse of many buttons and functions for CAD and 3D. And pretty much anything else. My brother, huge Apple fan to boot, was just asking me today about mouse recommendations for his MacBook. He, too, seems to dislike the magic mouse and the trackpad doesn't seem to be quite up to snuff for his Photoshop and Lightroom usage. On the third hand, a colleague of mine partially uses the touchscreen on her Vaio for CAD. Suffice to say I don't get that either. But hey, to each their own. :)

Fun fact: We had a guy try playing some first person shooters on an MBP trackpad. Yeah, that didn't go well compared to mouse users. :D

Damn I loves me a good ThinkPad. Clit/Nipple = best laptop mouse for sure, I dunno about the keyboard front, though. I'm constantly paranoid of fucking my/any laptops up, especially in social environments with drinks present and a less-than-sober state of mind. So with that in mind, best keyboard = something that can take some spooge spillage.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the magic mouse. I guess my hands are too big. I do have a Logitech wireless mouse for gaming!

I don't know where you're getting those #s from cause... I have an 840 (not Evo) in my desktop and look at these numbers compared to realworld user #s of the Kingston. The writes are better in some categories, but still it's not going to make THAT much of a difference.
